We are excited to announce that Xpedite Diagnostics has secured funding under the IraSME programme for a joint project with diaxxo AG (Switzerland). Project VISTA focuses on “Versatile Integrated Sample-To-Answer Diagnostics”. Both partners bring their particular expertise to the table aiming for developing an improved system for Point-of-Care veterinary diagnostics.
In veterinary testing, sample preparation remains the principal source of variability and delay. Extraction conditions optimized for one matrix often perform poorly with another, requiring laboratories to maintain multiple protocols, accept inconsistent yields, and rely on centralized facilities that return results in hours if not days later. In addition, diagnostic devices suitable for use outside of laboratory environments and being capable of coping with veterinary sample variability are scarce.
Project VISTA is designed to resolve this and builds on Xpedite’s know how in DNA/RNA extraction from challenging sample types and diaxxo’s current integrated M2 sample-to-answer platform. Within the project’s timeline we will develop and validate a universal DNA/RNA purification solution for typical veterinary sample types such as blood, faeces, urine, and tissue that accepts an unprecedented range of sample volume of 200µL up to 20mL. The new chemistry is envisaged to be chaotrope-free, solvent-free, and stable at ambient temperature – eliminating cold-chain requirements as well as dangerous-goods constraints.
The project’s ultimate goal is to maximize the robustness of the purification process and to minimize logistic requirements for shipping, storage, and handling of the resulting integrated molecular diagnostic solution provided by diaxxo.
For laboratories and veterinarians, the intended benefits are:

- Results within an hour
- Laboratory-grade molecular testing without dedicated infrastructure, cold-chain logistics, or specialized personnel
- A substantially lower cost per sample than comparable point-of-care systems
